The treatment process consists of a thorough review of your lifestyle, medical, psychiatric, family, social, and medication history. A personalized medical work up, a wellness plan and a bio-psycho-social-spiritual treatment plan will be recommended as indicated.
BOARD CERTIFICATIONS AND CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
Dr. Spariosu, a quadruple board certified physician (General Psychiatry, Consultation- Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine and Brain Injury Medicine) has an extensive interest and training in treating patients with primary psychiatric conditions (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, neuro-cognitive disorders) as well as psychiatric co-morbidities in patients with TBI (traumatic brain injury) and with medical or neurological illnesses, including Psychogenic-Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES). One of Dr. Spariosu's special interests is to offer mental health services to physicians and other healthcare providers.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Dr. Magdalena Spariosu completed Medical School in Romania, at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Timisoara, Psychiatry Residency Training at Maimonides Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY, and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry (Psychosomatic Medicine) Fellowship training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, in New Hyde Park, NY. Early in her career she developed passion for psychosomatic medicine, however, since she came across patients with more complex needs, such as TBI and substance use disorders, she pursued the board certifications in these subspecialties (Brain Injury Medicine and Addiction Medicine) as well.
LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
She has a history of a progressive growth in clinical, academic and administrative leadership: She held the following administrative leadership roles: Chief Resident, Vice Chair of Psychiatry, Interim Chair of Psychiatry and Chair of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Physician Executive. Her clinical leadership roles were: Chief of the Division of Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Medical Director of Hospital Psychiatry. She served in the following academic leadership roles: HUMC Clerkship Site Director for Rutgers NJMS, St. George's University SOM, Hackensack Meridian SOM, and site Program Director for Rutgers NJMS Psychiatry Residency Program.
In her roles as a Chair of Physician Health MEC Sub-Committee and Co-Chair of Residency Wellness GMEC Sub-Committee, Dr. Spariosu started multiple wellness and mental health support initiatives for physicians and health care providers.
RESEARCH INTERESTS
She had presented at multiple national and international professional conferences on the topics of Psychogenic Non-Epileptic Seizures (PNES), Wernicke’s Encephalopathy, Medical-Psychiatric Inpatient Units and TBI.

Psychiatry is the branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. Some of the conditions we treated conditions are: depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, schizophrenia, neuro-cognitive disorders.
Consultation-liaison Psychiatry focuses on the psychiatric care of patients with co-morbid psychiatric, medical and/or neurological conditions, such as cancer (psycho-oncology), cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, transplant, gastrointestinal, OB&GYN (perinatal mental health) and other medical co-morbidities.
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is associated with a host of psychiatric and neurobehavioral problems. Moderate and severe TBI can cause personality changes including impulsivity, severe irritability, affective instability and apathy. Mild TBI is known to be associated with affective symptoms, with suicidality, PTSD and major depressive disorde.
At this time, we provide supportive therapy with psychoeducation and motivational interviewing for patients in recovery. We also provide treatment for underlying psychiatric co-morbidities.
